Born to Be Other
A theme arose in my conversations with clients over the past week.
A deep and ancient feeling every magical woman knows:
That of being Other.
This feeling tends to surface when we cross a new threshold, and realize we no longer fit into our relational reality, or our place in the collective as we knew it.
It can awaken a strange sense of being estranged, outcast.
In the creative process, this feeling often gets triggered just as we’re getting ready to land our visions and creations into the world.
Suddenly, there is a doubt.
A heaviness.
A deep discomfort.
Can it really work?
Is it really real?
Will the world receive us?
This is a key turning point in our creative process, because it’s the moment where our frequency, vision, and creation, can successfully take root.
The sacred magical threshold between spirit and matter.
The liminal space where energy begins to structure and take form, which is incredibly powerful but also vulnerable.
If we can get closer to this feeling, and enter the dimension it holds, we will uncover a great source of energy.
A deep magical wound that holds both the secrets of our past, and the source codes to our pathway forward.
If we can listen to what this feeling is telling us, and allow its energy to flow through our bodies, a vast and timeless feminine superpower activates.
What if we were born to be Other?
In our lineage, we know that Otherness is a code.
A gift. A prophecy.
Let’s journey with this archetypal energy to receive its gift and nourishment, and see how it can direct our creative path now.
Many of us are familiar with Yeshua’s potent teaching from the Gospel of John, on being “in this world but not of it,” reminding us we must learn to walk the narrow path of magical embodiment.
To live the full expression of our destiny requires us to stand in multiple realms at once.
In Magdalene Mysteries, Seren and Azra Bertrand write of Magdalene:
“She is wildish, instinctive, irrepressible, and truly hamartolos – an outsider, one who exists beyond the conventional bounds of society, who is forbidden, and “other.”
In this otherness she belongs completely to the world; she is One with everything.”
The archetypal memory of a woman who is both human and more-than-human has lived in our collective psyche from time immemorial – from mermaids and selkies to sirens and nymphs, and all forms of feminine beings who move between worlds.
We also find this story in many of our contemporary heroines; to name just a few: Leeloo in The Fifth Element, Daenerys in Game of Thrones, Eleven in Stranger Things, or Prairie Johnson in The OA.
Her story arc goes like this:
She exists in a world that has forgotten what she is.
She carries a rare frequency, including psychic powers and oracular gifts that connect her to another realm.
She undergoes rejection, exile, and imprisonment.
She decides to break the rules, set herself free, and go on a journey to uncover the truth.
In that initiation, she meets her real identity, her innocence and her power – as well as her responsibility to fulfill her destiny.
Ultimately, the full expression of who she is activates through the power of love, relationship, and a total commitment to her calling.
To be Other is to be tasked with holding a frequency that cannot assimilate with the current order, because it isn’t meant to.
To be Other is to be a disruptor, an evolutionary catalyst, and a guardian of memory.
What once isolated us becomes our strength, our pride, and the source of our power.
There is an ancient pool of grief here that also leads us straight to the source of our magic.
Some days, we need to tend to the grief. To let it move through our hearts, psyches, and bodies. To follow it like a primeval mermaid back to important pockets of memory, feeling, and revelation.
And – there’s a wealth not to be missed here. Because our Otherness is where we find our specificity, our Soul Signature, and the unstoppable power of inhabiting who we really are.
It’s also how we find our place, our role, and our unique current of destiny in the unparalleled times we live in.
Our Otherness is where our full magical potency resides.
